The relevance and potential of digitalization for developing NMIs
International exchange platform
Background:
The digital transformation of our economies and societies is happening at an unpredictable speed. This dynamic is demanding a transformation in the metrology area, too. National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) could either be active promoters and take advantage of part of these developments, or they could be passive actors that need to adapt to a transformed economy and society and/or eventually be affected negatively by the new situation.
NMIs have different ways, topics and instruments to react and act. A critical first step is to use the digitalization to optimise processes in their institutions and laboratories, thus gaining (first) experiences with the manifold potentials that the digitalization and the digital transformation offer for metrology.
Objectives:
This website shall serve as a platform for exchanhe for developing NMIs. PTB International Cooperation wants to provide input on metrology for digital transformation and facilitate an international exchange on digital topics. The first event was an international online workshop in October 2020 with more than 200 participants from over 50 NMIs. The main topics that were discussed have been the digital calibration certificate, digital transformation strategies for NMIs and the metrology cloud. Further online seminars, conferences and workshops will be announced on this website soon!
